Press ReleaseMORELLI TO SEEK JUDICIAL SUB-CIRCUIT POST Long-time Aurora attorney Fred M. Morelli, Jr. has announced his candidacy for Circuit Judge in the newly-created Aurora sub-circuit. Morelli will seek the Republican nomination for the post in next year’s February primary. A lawyer in Aurora since graduating from the law school at Notre Dame in 1967, Morelli believes his past work as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Associate Judge and private lawyer make him eminently qualified for the post. “My years of experience in both the State and Federal court systems, hearing and trying cases on both the circuit and appellate levels has given me a unique background from which to serve and represent the people of Aurora, Montgomery and Kane County,” Morelli said. “I’ve seen our judicial system from all angles, whether prosecuting or defending criminal cases, litigating civil cases or hearing a variety of those same cases while serving on the bench from 1976 to 1981. My background gives me the opportunity to truly be the ‘People’s Judge’ for all residents of the sub-circuit.” During his tenure as an Associate Judge, Morelli heard cases raging from traffic court to misdemeanors, small claims and family law. On the small claims bench, Morelli was able to reduce the trial backlog from up to nine months to the next day if the litigants desired. “My promise to the voters and residents of the sub-circuit is to treat all litigants with fairness and respect,” Morelli said, “and to work hard to see that our judicial system lives up to its ideal – to serve the people. For that reason, if for no other, I declare my candidacy.” In addition to his practice of law, Morelli is also a veteran of six years service in the Illinois National Guard, retiring with the rank of First Lieutenant. Married to Maria Morelli for 41 years, they have three daughters and three grandchildren. Outside the office, Morelli enjoys time with family, skydiving, bicycling and reading. |
